Bank of Hawaii Family Sunday: Malama Honua

Every third Sunday of the month, Bank of Hawaii sponsors a free day of art projects and entertainment at the museum's Beretania Street location.
On May 15, members from the Polynesian Voyaging Society and learn how the navigators of Hokulea and Hikianalia use the stars to guide them around the world. Activities include creating small peace flags that will travel with the Hokulea, creating a "telescope" to look at constellations, and a chance to learn how to read a star compass. The free film is Waltah the Worm: The Rite of Passage which follows two friends as they try to become members on the Hokulea. Then take the free shuttle to Spalding House to listen to stories and make a sculpture that can hold air plants.
