Commemorate Memorial Day with a Local Legend

Hear Uncle Herb Weatherwax, a Pearl Harbor survivor, Native Hawaiian and first-time author share his amazing life story. Uncle Herb will offer anecdotes on what it was like to grow up in Hawaii, his experience in a Honolulu street gang, how he survived the attack on Pearl Harbor, his stint disarming bombs across Europe, and eventual transition to business owner, family man, and community leader.
Uncle Herb will share photos from his youth; read excerpts from his book, Counting My Blessings; and share stories of mischief, adventure, and travel. This one-hour program will be held in the First Floor Reading Room and is suitable for ages 5 and older. Young children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
