Hawaiian 'Ukulele Experience
Meet the makers of some of the best made ‘ukulele in the world, view an exhibition of custom and vintage ‘ukulele, and learn the latest building techniques and technology available at the three-day Hawaiian ‘Ukulele Experience at Bishop Museum presented in partnership with Ukulele Guild of Hawai‘i.
‘Ukulele Builder & Player Workshops will be held on Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees can attend hourly workshops about ‘ukulele-building tools and processes or on ‘ukulele playing techniques. Visitors can learn the process of building quality ‘ukulele, experience the fun of playing a Hawaiian song, or sharpen their playing technique.
Visitors can check out an ‘Ukulele Exhibition & Kanikapila on Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Nov. 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The guild’s luthier members, from Hawaiʻi and around the world, will exhibit their ‘ukulele-building craftsmanship in this weekend exhibition. View restored, antique collectable, and custom ‘ukulele ranging from the traditional to the innovative. Luthiers will be on hand to talk about their work and collections. Along with this stunning display there will also be live music and ‘ukulele playing. Visitors will enjoy the lively sounds of kanikapila—making music together. Relax and enjoy the music or pick up an ‘ukulele and songbook and join.
