Junior Aikido ( 6-10 years old) June 11th – July 16th Summer Session
A special junior Aikido class for boys and girls 6 through 10 years old will be held at the Still and Moving Center. The session will be at 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM and will run for six Saturdays from June 11 to July 16. The session will be limited to 15 participants. The series will prepare for a demonstration at the Oban celebration August 12-13 at Shingon Shu temple. Aikido is a perfect martial art for children. Because Aikido strengthens not only the body but also the mind and spirit, your child gains a strong sense of focus and self-confidence. Children practice in a friendly, coed atmosphere. Instruction will cover fundamentals of Aikido including etiquette, bowing, posture, tumbling, and fundamental techniques. Martial traditions in Japan begin and end with a bow. Emphasis is placed on bowing as a sign of pure heart and cooperation. On the technical side children will be taught to safely roll move with a technique. Children will be taught fundamental movements enabling them to do basic forms of fundamental techniques. No uniform (gi) is required, but should the child continue as part of the regular program, colored belts are awarded as an incentive and symbol of progress. Examinations for these promotions are conducted annually. Instructor Glenn Yoshida is a 6th degree Aikido black belt. He trained for 10 years at the Aikido World Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. He believes that Aikido is physical, mental, spiritual, and moral education, and that as we are physical beings it is through physical training that we are first able to gain spiritual insights.
