Kona Surf Film Festival

Big Island of Hawaii's Kona Surf Festival on Dec. 7 and 8 showcases feature-length and independent short films from around the world. Festival organizers say they received a record number of films from local, American, European and Australian filmmakers. One film Here and Now was shot by 20 filmmakers and surfers who documented the world of surfing in one day. Another film Dear Suburbia was filmed in the Caribbean, Australia, Japan, Indonesia and New Zealand. Bring a sweater, beach chair and blankets to watch the films on big movie screens under the stars. Hawaiian musician Paula Fuga opens the festival with her soulful voice on Dec. 7. The next day, Hawaii's Kimie Miner belts out acoustic, soul and reggae melodies.
The festival includes art, food, drinks and special guests. Shop for planet-friendly local art, including surf equipment, accesories and jewelry. Barbecue and beer available for purchase. No coolers allowed. Event benefits Kona Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation and Nā Kama Kai (Children of the Sea).
