A Taste of Aloha will take place Saturday, May 5th, at the Aloha Tower Marketplace, as an opening event of the 2012 Aloha State Games and a benefit for childhood obesity prevention efforts in Hawai`i.Organized by Kaho`omiki, this free community event will feature a Salsa theme in commemoration of Cinco De Mayo. The first 500 guests will receive a free Healthy Dishdonated by ING Direct and the Honolulu Club. The event also will feature authentic Latin dancing, zesty Latin cuisine, and a salsa tasting contest, plus special entertainment from California—the ballet folkloricCosta De Oro.Also to be named are Hawai`i's first Health & Fitness Ambassadors with the crowning of MissTeen, Mr. Teen and Ms. & Mr. Aloha State Games. Lucky winners will receive $20k in scholarships from Argosy University! And Hawai`i's own “Richard Simmons,â€Augie T. himself, will lead the second annual Run forOffice fitness run, featuring candidates for politicaloffice and their supporters.“This event is designed to connect local families to healthier eating and healthier living,†said organizer Toni Muranaka. “We believe that physical activity and healthy eating contribute substantially to a healthier life – that is our mission. And dance is one of the best ways toconnect all ages, so we are inviting everyone to ‘shakethe maracas' (a native instrument of Latin America)and then join a flash mob dance choreographed bythe Arthur Murray Dance Studio and sponsored by Your Health Hawaii Magazine.â€Special commemorative t-shirts will be on sale to support childhood obesity prevention, and special food boothswill feature different Island cuisine.The Aloha State Games is an activity of Kaho`omiki, a community non-profit which focuses on childhood obesity prevention.
