Old Computer and Cell Phone Idea: Donate to Help Local Kids
Donated computers and hardware are distributed to local families through KDOI's community partners.
If a new tablet, phone or computer was under the tree this year, you can turn your old technology into a new opportunity for a local family.
Kuauli Digital Opportunities Initiative launched in April 2020 as a way to help local families stay in touch and afloat as life moved to being done from a distance. The volunteers have collected and distributed 300 refurbished desktop computers to people in Waimānalo as well as Lānai, Moloka‘i, Maui and the Big Island. Now, KDOI is running its Hardware for the Holidays campaign, accepting donations through Jan. 31, 2021.
The group is accepting all working:
- Computers
- Desktop computers
- Laptops
- Servers
- Computer monitors
- Keyboards
- Cords
- Cables
- Computer mouse
- Flat panel TVs
- Cell phones
- Hot spots
- Tablets
KDOI cannot take non-working technology, monitors with cracked screens, printers or battery backups. The nonprofit is also seeking volunteers on all islands to help with a variety of tasks including testing and repairing computers, cleaning the parts, organizing the inventory or picking up and delivering donations.
