Keiki Day! at Kāhala Mall will offer marine-themed activities and a free movie on Saturday, July 28.
Keiki Day! at Kāhala Mall
Be a “steward of the ocean” this Saturday at Kāhala Mall, where there will be kid-friendly activities ranging from gyotaku printing to balloon twisting. Children can visit booths to play games, create crafts and stamp their Keiki Day passports in exchange for prizes. At 9:30 a.m. and 10:20 a.m., Kāhala Consolidated Theatres will show a free screening of the documentary film STRAWS to highlight the environmental dangers of single-use plastic straws. Almost all of Kāhala Mall’s merchants have agreed not to provide plastic straws that day. The center stage will have entertainment by award-winning musician Kamakakehau Fernandez “Kamaka,” followed by students of Roy Sakuma ‘Ukulele Studio.

Ready2React Emergency Preparedness Event
Are you ready? The state’s largest emergency preparedness event of the year will be at Pearlridge Center this Saturday to educate the public about natural disasters, first-aid techniques, evacuation procedures, and more. This is a chance for keiki to chat with and learn from government and nonprofit agencies. Truck enthusiasts can see a big display of vehicles including an antique fire truck, ambulance, mobile air-traffic control tower truck, and equipment from the Hawai'i Army National Guard and the Naval Air Museum Barbers Point. While at the event, don’t forget to fill out a disaster-preparedness survey on-site to help prioritize future preparedness projects, including budget allocations for the state of Hawai’i.

Hawaiian Humane Society’s Makapu’u Sunset Benefit Hike
Pets and their humans will hit an east Oʻahu trail Saturday evening for the Hawaiian Humane Society’s annual Makapuʻu Sunset Benefit Hike. Enjoy the ocean views (and breeze) from Hawaiʻi Kai to Waiamānalo along the two-mile walk and bond with other pet owners. For a suggested donation of $25, registered hikers will receive a Hawaiian Humane Society bandana for pets and people, plus light refreshments at the trailhead. All proceeds benefit animals at the society. The trail is on a paved, uphill path. Bring plenty of water for you and your pets to keep cool.

School Supply Collection at Koko Marina Center
Local children-in-need often start the school year with little to no school supplies. To help the keiki, Koko Marina Shopping Center has teamed up with Helping Hands Hawaiʻi to collect school supply donations. With every donation, you’ll also be able to shred up to three boxes of old documents for free, courtesy of ACCESS Information Protected. In addition, T&M Computer Recycling Services will be on-site to collect used electronic gadgets.

Museum of Aloha at Ka Makana Aliʻi
Did you miss The Museum of Aloha's interactive, pop-up exhibit at Pearlridge Center from June to mid-July? Good news: The museum has moved to Ka Makana Ali’i in Kapolei and is scheduled to end Aug. 12. Keiki will have fun playing with confetti, balloons and hanging lei. The creators have added new features that are Instagram-worthy.
