ESPN 1420 Sports Festival 2018
Discover your inner-athlete at the 8th annual ESPN 1420 Sports Festival, happening this Saturday in the Neal Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. The free event will have a video-gaming area; a sports expo with health-and-fitness products, rock-climbing walls for keiki, and other sports activities. Line up for autograph sessions with UFC fighter Louis Smolka, former UH women’s volleyball All-American Nikki Taylor and world champion surfer Carissa Moore. Don’t forget to check in at the main booth to receive a wristband and a “Sports Challenge” card to present at each activity station. Picnic on the Pier
Bring your own food and drinks to the Battleship Missouri Memorial’s “Picnic on the Pier,” an evening event with kids’ activities, tours aboard the Mighty Mo and entertainment by local musician Randy Allen. Tin Hut BBQ and Honolulu Beerworks also will sell food and beverages on the pier next to the ship. One of the items in the silent auction will be a Nanea American Girl Doll and her book, Growing Up with Aloha. Nanea is modeled after Dorinda Nicholson, who was 6 years old when Pearl Harbor was bombed. Nicholson will be at the picnic to tell stories and show items she used during World War II. Free, round-trip shuttle service will be available from Pearl Harbor Visitor Center to the pier venue.

71st Annual Book Sale
Browse over 200,000 books, DVDs, CDs and artwork at the Friends of the Library of Hawai'i’s annual book sale, which begins at 9 a.m., Saturday, June 16, in the McKinley High School cafeteria. Get there early for the best selections. On Saturday and Sunday only, visit the gray tent in front of the cafeteria, where authors from the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators will sell and sign their brand-new children’s books, with a portion of sales going to support Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i. The event runs for one week. Discounts of 10 percent will be given to teachers and librarians on June 20, military members on June 21, and seniors ages 65 and older on June 22. The price of books will drop by 50 percent on June 23. On the final day, June 24, all books will clear for 50 cents each.

Makana Kids Club Father's Day
Bring the kids to a Makana Kids Club event this Saturday at Ka Makana Ali’i in Kapolei, where they’ll make personalized photo frames for Father’s Day. Participants who feature their framed photo on the treat truck in the mall's center court and post to social media will be entered to win an Applebee’s dinner for four and a $100 Ka Makana Ali‘i gift card.

Twilight, Dine ’n’ Movie and Dad’s Appreciation Day at Wet ’n’ Wild
Kids will get an excuse to stay up late this Saturday at Wet ’n’ Wild Hawai'i in Kapolei. The park will drop its rates all day just for Dads ($9.99 general admission), and for local residents after 5 p.m. ($19.99). Saturday also marks the start of the park’s “Twilight” hours, where rides will stay open until 9 p.m. At sundown, the PG-13-rated movie THOR: Ragnorak will show on a giant, outdoor screen. Bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket for the movie.
